The Los Angeles Rams are expected to release outside linebacker Leonard Floyd if they cannot trade him first, league sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Floyd, who is under contract through the 2024 season, has had at least nine sacks in each of the past three seasons for the Rams.

The Rams would save $3 million on their salary cap by releasing him but the move also would result in $19 million in dead money. If they were to designate his release as a post-June 1 transaction, the cap savings would jump to $15.5 million and the dead money charge would drop to $6.5 million.

Floyd, 30, had nine sacks last season while starting all 17 games. He joined the Rams in 2020 and posted a career-best 10.5 sacks that season.
