The
Professional Fighters League on Friday unveiled matchups for
the second half of its 2023 PFL Regular Season, which resumes on
June 8 at Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta.
News broke earlier this week — originally reported by MMAFighting
— that nine fighters had tested positive for undisclosed banned
substances after their bouts in the PFL heavyweight, light
heavyweight and featherweight brackets. The list includes
heavyweights Bruno
Cappelozza, Cezar
Ferreira and Rizvan
Kuniev, light heavyweights Thiago
Santos, Krzysztof
Jotko, Will Fleury
and Mohammad
Fakhreddine, as well as featherweights Daniel
Torres and Alejandro
Flores. The fighters have been temporarily suspended by the
Nevada State Athletic Commission and are notably absent from the
cards released Friday.
Despite the suspensions, the three June lineups still pack plenty
of firepower and are all headlined by 2022 PFL Season winners:
Featherweight king Brendan
Loughnane will top the June 8 event against Jesus
Pinedo; heavyweight ace Ante Delija
will lock horns with Maurice
Greene atop the June 16 bill; lightweight ruler Olivier
Aubin-Mercier will man the marquee versus Anthony
Romero.
“The PFL is excited to return to OTE Arena in Atlanta for the
second half of the 2023 Regular Season with three-action packed
events,” said Ray Sefo,
president of fighter operations for PFL. “Each fighter will have
one final attempt to punch their ticket to the PFL Playoffs and
take a step closer to a $1 million prize.”
