Tom
Aspinall
’s return from a horrific knee injury is set to take
place in the same venue where it was inflicted last year.

On Wednesday, the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced that
Aspinall (12-3, 5-1 UFC) will headline UFC on ESPN 49 on July 22 in
London against Marcin
Tybura
. Aspinall was vocal about his intentions to return in
July after a year on the sidelines as he called out Tybura during
the UFC 286 fight week in March. The Nevada-based promotion granted
his wish, offering Aspinall his third main event booking, all of
which have taken place in his native U.K.

Aspinall’s last outing ended in misery, as he suffered a freak knee
injury 15 seconds into his clash with Curtis
Blaydes
in the UFC Fight Night 208 headliner last July in
London. Prior to that loss, his first under the UFC banner, the
Team Kaobon representative had been quickly climbing the rankings
as he compiled an eight-bout winning streak, including his first
five Octagon outings.

Tybura (24-7, 11-6 UFC) is arguably in the best moment of his
career. The Polish fighter is 7-1 in his latest Octagon
appearances, with a sole loss at the hands of Alexander
Volkov
at UFC 267 in October 2021. Among his many victims,
“Tybur” has defeated Ben
Rothwell
, Walt Warris and Alexander
Romanov
. Most recently, Tybura outpointed Blagoy
Ivanov
on all scorecards at UFC Fight Night 218.

UFC on ESPN 49 goes down at the O2 Arena in London, England, on
July 22. The event will also feature a women’s bantamweight affair
between Ketlen
Vieira
and Pannie
Kianzad
, and a featherweight tilt involving Lerone
Murphy
and Joshua
Culibao
.
